Frequently Asked Questions: General
How is the winner calculated?
ExpectNet calculates an overall winner and a winner in
each category (correct gender and closest to length, weight,
and birth date and time). To calculate the overall rankings,
penalty points from each category are totalled. The default points
are assigned as follows, however the game host can adjust them to customize their game:
- incorrect gender: 400 points
- birth date & time: 5 points/hour
- weight: 5 points/ounce or 0.2 points/gram
- length: 10 points/inch or 4 points/centimeter
The winner is the person with the fewest points.
This is one of many possible methods of calculating an overall
winner. For a game with multiple births, an overall winner is calculated
for each baby. We welcome any feedback on this method or ideas for other
methods. Just let us know on our feedback
page.
Is there a prize?
At this time the only prize is a whole lot of pride! However, the
parents or game host may choose to offer a prize to the
winner(s).
Frequently Asked Questions: Participating in a Game
How do I change or delete my guess?
If you registered for an account and logged in before entering your guess, then just log
in, go to the game page, and click your name in the game table to edit or delete your guess.
If you entered a guess without registering, or the host has locked the game, or the host disallowed
guess editing then only the host can change or delete a guess. You'll have to ask them to make
the changes for you.
Frequently Asked Questions: Game Hosts
I purchased the full version game, but I still only have the free version. What now?
On rare occasions PayPal doesn't send back all of the information that ExpectNet needs
to automatically update your game after you purchase the full version. Just use the form
at the bottom of this page to let us know that this happened, and we'll update your game
as soon as possible. We are very sorry for any inconvenience that this might cause!
The baby has been born! How do I enter the birth information?
Go to the Game Control page for your game. Just about everything that can be changed in your
game can be changed from the Game Control page. You will see a link that says "When your baby
has been born, click here."
I have a game, now how do I tell people about it?
Email, word of mouth, it's up to you! You just need to let people
know what your game name is so they can log into your game.
You can also send an invitation to
prospective participants from your Game Control.
What can I do if someone I don't know posted a guess
in my game (unauthorized entry)?
First of all, in order to decrease the chances of this happening,
we suggest choosing a game name that would be difficult to guess
by people you haven't specifically given it to. The game name must
be between 5 and 20 letters and/or numbers, with at least one letter,
and no spaces. Combining letters and numbers is better than just
making your game name a common word. If someone does gain unauthorized
access to your game (and you know it is someone who you don't want to
be there), there are two things you can do.
If they have entered a guess in your game table,
the first thing to do is delete it by clicking on their name
and then clicking the delete button at the bottom
of the guess edit page. Then change your game name on the Game Control
page and send the new name to all the participants
from your email account or through
the "send email to all participants" link on your Game Control page.
Why am I allowed to edit the guesses of participants
in my game?
The primary purpose of this is to give you the ability to censor
anything written in the "name" or "who I am" fields that you would
rather not be there. You can also help any participant with editing or
deleting their guess. This is one way in which we give the hosts
complete control over their game. Of course, you can also delete any
unauthorized entries should they occur.
